Sendong Survivors Rise to Address Children’s Therapy and Healing

Cagayan de Oro, Philippines – As Walt Disney said, “Keep moving forward.” This is what the people of Cagayan de Oro are doing right now. After the devastation from Typhoon Sendong last year, which claimed families and property, the survivors have slowly gotten back in rebuilding their lives.

Ateneo de Cagayan – Xavier University has donated land for resettlement areas to those who were affected by the tragedy. Called Xavier Ecoville, the resettlement in Lumbia has included building a toy center in their plans for intervention for their children, who experienced so much at their young age.

“Last year, I personally went to CDO during the relief operations and I witnessed their suffering,” PTL President Edsel Ramirez shares. “Let’s help their children move on from the tragedy through creating a space where they can heal and play.”

The Philippine Toy Library is currently calling for donations of toys and children’s books. Clear out closets and start helping in the building toy centers in Porac and Sasmuan, Pampanga, Dapdap, Quezon, Palawan, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur.

Drop off points are in Quezon City (KIDS AHOY, PTL and Jesuit Volunteers Philippines offices), Alabang, Pampanga (Orchid Bookstore branches), Baguio, Bacolod and Zamboanga City (ADZU, Tzu Chi Foundation and YSP offices).
