#ToysforZamboKids: Call for Donations for Zamboanga Children

Published on 07/29/14

There are 21,628 children who were affected by the Zamboanga crisis according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. To help in the healing process and trauma management of these children, PTL is appealing for toys that can be given out to the children.

“We are saddened that the victims of this crisis are our children,” PTL Edsel Ramirez says. “We need to provide better memories for them – of hope, love and joy. We ask everyone to help us ease their pain.”

Last year, together with the Youth Solidarity for Peace, PTL built a toy center in Brgy. Mariki. “Mariki is one of the barangays that were affected by the crisis,” YSP Chair Christian Olasiman describes. “We don’t know if the toy library was spared. Perhaps, we need to rebuild the center again for them, and provide new meaning for peace.”

Tzu Chi Foundation Director Anton Lim, another partner of PTL, is very much hopeful for the children. “We plan to use the donated toys for the children’s therapy, to transcend the wounds and scars of this crisis.”

The Zamboanga children are our children too. Together, let us rebuild their dreams, one child at a time – one toy at a time.

Drop-off points for toy donations are located in Quezon City (PTL & Jesuit Volunteers Philippines offices), Pampanga (Orchid Bookstore branches) and Zamboanga (Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Tzu Chi Foundation, Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation and YSP offices).
